Helping Endodontic Patients Relax

Woman receiving dental exam

At Elite Endodontics, Our dentistswants our patients to have the most comfortable experience possible while delivering quality care. We offer different types of sedation to accommodate each patient’s specific need. If you think you may need sedation at your visit, don’t hesitate to contact our Westerville, OH location.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) is a mild form of sedation. It’s administered to the patient through a mask that fits over their nose. Patients will remain conscious throughout the procedure, but anxiety will be reduced. The effects wear off quickly, so patients are able to return to normal activities and drive afterwards.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you are seeking a stronger effect for your sedation experience, oral conscious sedation may be the right option. Patients will be instructed to take oral medication at a certain time before their visit. While you will still be awake and responsive during the procedure, your sense of relaxation will be so strong that the time will likely fly by – an hour-long procedure can feel like minutes! Patients will need an escort to drive them both to and from our location.

IV Sedation

IV drip

IV sedation is similar to oral conscious sedation, but the medication is administered intravenously (directly into a vein) instead of through medication, which allows us to adjust the dosage as needed to ensure an optimal experience. We bring in an anesthesiologist to perform this procedure and will therefore start with a consultation appointment. Patients should feel deeply at ease and may even doze off. It’s likely that you will have very little memory of the treatment experience, which is ideal for many people. Again, you will need to arrange for a trusted friend or family member to drive you home following the procedure.
